ESPAÑOL · ORIGINAL

Cada mañana, Clara pasaba por una pequeña librería junto al mar. Siempre tenía prisa, pero aquel día había un libro abierto en la ventana.

ENGLISH · TRANSLATION

Every morning, Clara passed a little bookshop beside the sea. She was always in a hurry, but that day there was an open book in the window.

ESPAÑOL · ORIGINAL

Se detuvo a leer una frase. Luego otra. Por primera vez en mucho tiempo, olvidó mirar el reloj. Alguien había dejado una nota: «Las mejores aventuras empiezan con una página».

ENGLISH · TRANSLATION

She stopped to read a sentence. Then another. For the first time in a long while, she forgot to check the time. Someone had left a note: “The best adventures begin with a page.”

This website sample uses four prepared synthetic recordings, not live narration or a production voice preview. The app's voices and offline options depend on language and engine. This player demonstrates listening; it does not import a book, prepare audio or export a file.

About the sample voices

Prepared with Microsoft Elvira (Spanish) and Ava Multilingual (English) neural voices. The story and English translation were written for this demonstration. No account, microphone access or live translation is used.

BRING YOUR BOOKS

Your next read.
More ways to begin.

Start with the files you already own, find a classic in Discover, or connect the library you’ve built on your own server.

YOUR FILESDISCOVERYOUR OPDS LIBRARY

Use DRM-free files you have the right to read. Catalog access and download rights depend on the source.

.epub

Books made for reading.

Parallel translation, reading aids and bilingual EPUB export. Desktop and iPhone/iPad.

.pdf

Your documents belong here, too.

On desktop and iPhone/iPad, choose “Read as book” for PDFs with usable text to read reflowed, translated content. Return to the original page whenever you need it.

.mobi

A home for older ebooks.

Import supported MOBI on desktop; iPhone/iPad converts supported, unprotected MOBI and AZW3 into reading copies.

.docx

Listen to a manuscript.

On iPhone/iPad, convert supported DOCX, TXT, HTML, RTF and FB2 into reading copies. Document layout may change.

What happens with scanned PDFs or PDFs on iPad?

Scans and PDFs without usable extracted text are read as original pages, without parallel translation or OCR. With usable text, desktop and iPhone/iPad support translation and listening. Complex tables, columns and reading order can affect the result.

Discover a classic.

Browse sources including Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, Internet Archive and Open Library. Access and downloadable editions depend on the source.

Connect your own shelves.

Browse OPDS libraries such as Calibre-Web, Kavita and Komga, with shelves and search where your server supports them.

02

LISTEN. EXPORT. KEEP GOING.

From your reading
to something you can keep.

Keep supported chapter audio in Reader on desktop. On iPhone/iPad, save eligible recordings to Files. Take a bilingual EPUB into another reader, too.

READ-ALOUD + RENDERED AUDIO

Let your reading
come with you.

Hear the original, the translation, or both. Follow along with read-aloud, then keep supported chapters as rendered audio for offline listening.

.m4a

Save audio outside Reader on iPhone/iPad.Save supported Kokoro or Edge recordings as M4A files. A book becomes separate recordings, not one merged audiobook.

Voices, downloads and audio export limits

Voice and language support varies by platform and engine. Online voices need a connection to generate audio; local neural voices need supported downloaded packs. Keep the app open during local audio preparation. iOS file export accepts supported Kokoro and Edge M4A recordings. Audio-file sharing described here is for iPhone/iPad; desktop provides a local rendered-audio library. Rendered audio stays on the device and is not cloud-synced.

  3. Save or deliver the EPUB
Source formats, completeness and delivery

iPhone/iPad exports from EPUB source books, including supported converted documents. Desktop also accepts PDFs with complete usable reflow, but not MOBI. Review translation coverage before exporting; cached-only output can contain untranslated gaps. Desktop offers file saving and a Send-to-Kindle handoff; iOS offers Files and sharing destinations, with device/account setup required. These are personal-use exports, not distribution permission.

Illustrations explain the output; this sample does not generate files. Save an external copy to keep a recording independently of Reader. App-local audio is not a backup. iOS saved audio and EPUB export may require Pro or the gifted-book allowance; check platform availability below.

A CLOSER LOOK

More than
a place to turn pages.

Explore the details that matter to your reading. These describe the app’s features, not extra functions running in this sample.

Read & navigate Layouts, focus, search
  • Parallel original and translation, with interleaved paragraphs on narrow screens.
  • Adjustable fonts, size, spacing and Light/Sepia/Dark themes.
  • Focus controls, contents and reading progress.
  • Desktop vertical Japanese text and right-to-left navigation.
  • In-book search and highlight/note tools are implemented in the native iOS EPUB reader.
  • Desktop detached reader windows and Grid/List library views.
Translate your way Engine choice, cached editions
  • Free keyless machine translation with fallback; online engines need a connection.
  • Bring your own provider key for options such as DeepL, OpenAI, Google Cloud and Azure. Providers may charge separately.
  • Desktop also supports OpenRouter and LibreTranslate configurations.
  • Choose engines and retranslate. Desktop retains per-engine translation editions; iOS cache behavior differs.
  • Apple translation requires iOS 26 and an installed supported language pair. Missing packs can trigger a disclosed online fallback.
Build your library Import, Discover, OPDS
  • EPUB, PDF and supported MOBI import. iPhone/iPad also converts supported documents such as DOCX and TXT.
  • Cover/title library browsing, deduplication and saved reading progress.
  • A bundled starter shelf and first-run language setup.
  • Public catalog browsing, search and import, subject to source access and rights.
  • Your own OPDS servers, including authenticated connections and nested shelves.

  • Eligible Kokoro and Edge M4A file export on iPhone/iPad.
  • Bilingual EPUB export from EPUB source books; desktop also accepts eligible reflowed PDFs.
  • Vocabulary CSV export on desktop and iPhone/iPad.
Learn as you go Hints, review, statistics
  • Word lookup and capture with sentence context.
  • Word Lens hints; desktop’s documented scope is monolingual reading.
  • Pronunciation guides for supported Chinese, Japanese and Korean text.
  • Spaced repetition and saved-word decoration in books.
  • Reading-time, streak and review-history statistics.
  • Additional production and listening review cards on desktop.
Local first, sync by choiceAccounts and data boundaries
  • Start with local reading; account-backed cloud sync is optional and requires sign-in and enablement.
  • Optional sync covers supported books/library data, vocabulary, reviews, statistics and translations. Not every setting or annotation syncs.
  • Rendered audio files remain device-local; they do not follow you through cloud sync.
  • Online translation and voice services receive the text needed for their work. Local-first does not mean every feature is offline.

Features vary by platform, format and voice engine. Android is planned. Check the download section for available builds.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few good
questions.

What is NextPhase Reader?

A personal-content reader for books and documents you already have. Read, listen, and use the same material for bilingual reading and vocabulary practice. Saved audio and portable outputs depend on platform, source format and voice.

Can I keep the audio outside Reader?

On iPhone/iPad, supported Kokoro and Edge recordings can be shared or saved to Files as separate M4A recordings. Keep that external copy: app-local recordings can be lost when app data is removed. Desktop currently keeps prepared chapter audio in its local audio library; a general external audio-export workflow is not offered here.

Which files should I start with?

Start with a DRM-free EPUB or a PDF with selectable text. Desktop also accepts supported MOBI. iPhone/iPad adds document conversion, including DOCX manuscripts. Scans need OCR that Reader does not provide; DRM-protected Kindle purchases are not supported.

Can I listen offline?

Prepared recordings can play offline once they are on your device. Supported downloaded voices can also generate speech locally after setup. Edge needs a connection for new audio, and local iOS preparation requires the app to stay open. Live read-aloud, preparing a recording and playing a saved file have different requirements.

Do I need to download anything to try the demo?

No. The sample works here in your browser, without an account or your own book. You can move between experiences and keep browsing this page.

Is this the full app running in the browser?

No. This is a small, prepared interactive sample. Its interface is illustrative. Live translation, importing books and synchronization are not connected.

Which book will I be trying?

Two original short stories: a Spanish bookshop visit and a Japanese letter in the rain, each with prepared English support. The PDF sample is an original two-page French/English field journal. Listening uses prepared synthetic recordings of the Spanish story and its English translation.

Will my sample words be saved?

Only until you reset the reading sample or reload the page. Switching experiences keeps your sample words. This sample has no account connection, analytics collection or live translation requests.
